Atlassian Launches AMP, Making AI Agents Visible Team Members

Atlassian Corporation today announced AMP — the Agentic Multiplayer Protocol — at its Team '26 Europe conference in Amsterdam, a set of rules for AI agents to work as team members inside tools like Jira, Confluence and Loom. It also unveiled a new Atlassian MCP Server and Teamwork Graph upgrades.

What happened

According to Atlassian's announcement, AMP is designed to move AI collaboration out of isolated one-on-one chats and browser tabs into open, multiplayer teamwork. Agents can now be @mentioned in Confluence pages, Jira comment threads or Loom video briefs, while the Atlassian MCP Server pulls in context from third-party tools like Figma or IDEs.

Identity is a core pillar: every agent gets a clear owner and distinct profile, appearing in real-time presence bars and cursors alongside human teammates. Local agent sessions on developer laptops can be bridged into Jira boards. Governance-wise, agents are grounded in the Teamwork Graph and can 'Run as User' or use dedicated service accounts, with a full audit trail of every action.

CEO and co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes said the companies that pull ahead in the AI era will be the ones that get people and agents working together in the open, as one team.

Key facts

  1. Identity & presence: : each agent has an owner, a profile, and shows up in presence bars, cursors, canvases and whiteboards next to humans
  2. New MCP Server: : nearly 2M monthly active users, 15M+ daily tool calls (15x in six months); up to 25% fewer tokens for the same Jira/Confluence work, per internal benchmarking on Claude models
  3. Teamwork Graph: : now connects 250B+ objects and relationships, 80+ connectors (new: Zoom, Gong, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Identity); reads code down to function/symbol level
  4. Scale: : people and agents already collaborate 10M+ times a month on Atlassian's platform; 85%+ of Fortune 500 are customers

Why it matters

AMP gives AI agents an owner, a profile and a full audit trail inside Jira, Confluence and Loom; the Atlassian MCP Server has nearly 2 million monthly active users and 15M+ daily tool calls, up 15x in six months.
