TomTom and DeepRoute.ai Sign Deal on AI Automated Driving, With an Open-Road Demo at the Paris Motor Show

TomTom, the mapping and location technology specialist, and DeepRoute.ai, an AI-powered automated driving technology company, announced on October 12 that they have signed a memorandum of understanding covering their joint technical work on automated driving. TomTom's location data has been integrated into DeepRoute.ai's automated driving stack, and an integrated demonstration vehicle will run on open roads in Paris during the Paris Motor Show.

What happened

According to the companies' October 12 announcement via GlobeNewswire, DeepRoute.ai's stack combines sensor information with TomTom location data to ground automated driving in road layouts, local rules and wider context, supporting the driving decisions and maneuvers required for advanced L2+ and L2++ functions. TomTom's location data captures local differences in roads, traffic rules, driving behaviors and validation requirements, helping carmakers and technology partners adapt automated driving systems to regional conditions.

During the Paris Motor Show, the demonstration vehicle will run DeepRoute.ai's automated driving stack on TomTom location data on open roads in Paris; media and customers attending the show can book a test drive or arrange a meeting with the TomTom team. Willem Strijbosch, Head of Orbis Product Management at TomTom, said in the announcement that the cooperation is speeding up the safe roll-out of automated driving across different markets. Xuan Liu, a partner at DeepRoute.ai, said in the announcement that partnering with TomTom is a step in the company's global expansion and will help automakers navigate regulatory and physical environments abroad.

The announcement also disclosed DeepRoute.ai's production figures: 500,000 vehicles equipped with its Urban Assisted Driving solution have reached consumers across more than ten best-selling models. The company also uses mass-production vehicles to build the algorithmic foundation for Robotaxi services and is expanding that business line. TomTom is headquartered in Amsterdam with about 3,300 employees worldwide.

Key facts

  1. Form of the deal: An MoU covering joint technical work on AI-based automated driving; TomTom's location data has been integrated into DeepRoute.ai's stack.
  2. Function level: The combined system targets L2+ and L2++ functions, with data covering road layouts, local rules, traffic rules and driving-behavior differences.
  3. Public demo: The demonstration vehicle will run on open roads in Paris during the Paris Motor Show, with test drives bookable by media and customers.
  4. Production scale: DeepRoute.ai says 500,000 vehicles with its Urban Assisted Driving solution have reached consumers across more than ten best-selling models.

Why it matters

DeepRoute.ai has already shipped its assisted driving solution in 500,000 vehicles; this deal plugs TomTom's multi-market road and rules data into that production stack, with an open-road Paris demonstration as the first step of its overseas rollout.
