Anthropic Co-Founder: Internal Model Forecasts US GDP Could Hit $44 Trillion by 2030
On Oct 17, Anthropic co-founder Jack Clark told the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok that rapidly improving AI capabilities are accelerating change across every field, and that one of the company's internal economic models forecasts US economic output could expand to $44 trillion by 2030. He also called for international cooperation to build "unusual and serious rules" for the transformative technology.

What happened
Clark said in his remarks that AI is vastly increasing scientific discovery, and that the internal model's forecast rests on the technology continuing to get better. Reuters reported the $44 trillion forecast compares with a current US GDP level of just over $30 trillion.
"I know, but it's implicated by the technology continuing to get better. And if GDP were to grow this much, then economic doctrine suggests that new industries and inventions would need to have been created to power such a major economic expansion."
— Jack Clark (Anthropic co-founder, IMF/World Bank annual meetings, Oct 17)
Beyond the economic forecast, Clark said international cooperation is needed to erect "unusual and serious rules" for the transformative technology.
