AI Simulation Startup ASI Raises $325M Series C at $3 Billion Valuation

Boston AI startup ASI announced on October 20 that it has closed a $325 million Series C round at a $3 billion post-money valuation. Led by Spark Capital, the round backs a company selling AI simulation software to power grids, air-traffic systems and military command — it won a $99 million U.S. Army contract this month and signed a 12-year, $875 million FAA deal in June.

What happened

According to Reuters’ October 20 report, Boston-based ASI announced the same day that it had closed a Series C round of $325 million, valuing the company at $3 billion. Spark Capital led the round, with participation from affiliates of Citadel Securities, Meritech Capital and Craft Ventures, among others. ASI said it would use the proceeds to expand deployments across energy, logistics and military environments and to grow its research and engineering teams in Boston.

Founder and CEO Phillip Buckendorf drew a line between ASI’s approach and mainstream large models in a statement: “While the broader tech ecosystem spent hundreds of billions teaching AI to manipulate words and generate text, ASI is deeply focused on AI systems that can manage and control physical assets.”
