Goldman Sachs Commits $500 Million to Launch Small Business AI Institute with OpenAI, Google, Anthropic and Meta

Goldman Sachs on October 22 announced the Goldman Sachs Small Business AI Institute, backed by a new $500 million commitment for the next chapter of its 10,000 Small Businesses program: education, access to capital and support services for another 10,000 US small businesses. The Institute will work with Anthropic, Google, Meta and OpenAI to help entrepreneurs integrate AI into daily operations and scale their businesses.

What happened

The Institute extends Goldman's 10,000 Small Businesses program, which has run since 2010. The four partners have defined roles: a new applied-AI learning series with Anthropic; the Grow with Google AI Professional certificate for nearly 20,000 small business owners and employees, with three months of no-cost Google AI Pro access; Meta's Muse for Small Business offering AI tools and training; and tailored AI workshops with OpenAI through the program's community college partners. Goldman says the Institute has three pillars: AI education for small business owners nationwide, research on small-business AI use, and AI-enabled expansion of access to capital.

Goldman Sachs has invested in small businesses for more than 15 years, because that is where job creation happens. Every major technology shift has rewarded the businesses that adapt most quickly. This commitment makes sure the entrepreneurs who are creating America's jobs can lead in the AI economy.

Key facts

  1. Amount and scope: Goldman announced a new $500 million commitment for the next chapter of 10,000 Small Businesses, covering education, access to capital and support services for another 10,000 businesses.
  2. The four AI companies: Anthropic, Google, Meta and OpenAI are all on board — the first time the four leading AI labs have jointly backed a Wall Street-led small-business AI program.
  3. Program history: 10,000 Small Businesses launched in 2010; Goldman says nearly 20,000 entrepreneurs across all 50 US states have completed it, representing over $32 billion in annual revenue and 350,000 jobs.
  4. Where small businesses stand on AI: A survey of more than 2,400 program graduates released the same day found 86% already use AI in their business (up from 56% in 2024), but only 15% say AI is fully integrated into core operations, and more than three-quarters want additional training and resources.
  5. Executive statements: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic co-founder and president Daniela Amodei, Alphabet president Ruth Porat and Meta president and vice chairman Dina Powell McCormick each issued supporting statements in the announcement.

Why it matters

four rival frontier AI companies have for the first time put their names on the same Wall Street initiative, turning scattered small-business AI efforts into one joint program; the $500 million lands in a 15-year-old program that already reaches 20,000 entrepreneurs, and the survey gap — 86% use AI but only 15% have it in core operations — is exactly the shortfall this money targets.
