Google to Shut Down Coding Agent Jules by Year-End, Folding It Into Antigravity
Google announced on Oct 29 that its asynchronous coding agent Jules will wind down on Dec 31, 2026, turning read-only after Nov 11, with its learnings folded into the agent-first development platform Antigravity.

What happened
Jules launched in December 2024, positioned as completing coding jobs developers "don't want to do": cloning a GitHub repository into a cloud virtual machine, planning changes, writing code, running tests, and opening a pull request for review. In its Jules turndown notice, Google said the move is part of its work to unify its agentic coding efforts, calling Jules an experiment in learning how asynchronous coding agents could help clear backlogs.
The timeline has three stages: until Nov 11, users can keep finishing active sessions; after Nov 11, Jules turns read-only until it winds down on Dec 31. Export is already available, saving settings, environment variables, scheduled tasks, connected repositories, memories, setup scripts and full session history to a local folder; code, branches and pull requests already live in GitHub and are unaffected. Google has given no date for Jules-style background tasks arriving in Antigravity, nor announced automatic migration of saved sessions and memories.
On the same day, Antigravity launched a Plugin Marketplace: Google-built and third-party plugins can be installed in one click in the app and the command-line interface, each plugin bundling skills, MCP servers, rules, hooks and custom agents; launch partners include Atlassian, Figma and Stripe. Google said the goal is to combine Jules' autonomous remote background task execution with Antigravity's agent-first development environment in one place.
Key facts
- Launch and positioning: Jules launched in December 2024 as an asynchronous coding agent handling tasks such as fixing bugs, writing code and updating dependencies.
- Shutdown dates: Google announced the shutdown on Oct 29, 2026; Jules turns read-only after Nov 11 and winds down on Dec 31.
- Export scope: settings, environment variables, scheduled tasks, connected repositories, memories, setup scripts and full sessions, including prompts, plans, activity logs and code patches.
- Code ownership: code, branches and pull requests already live in GitHub and stay there.
- Successor: Antigravity is Google's agent-first development platform, launched in November 2025 and reaching version 2.0 at Google I/O 2026.
- Plugin Marketplace: launched the same day and rolling out in the app and the CLI; each plugin bundles skills, MCP servers, rules, hooks and custom agents; launch partners include Atlassian, Canva, CrowdStrike, Databricks, Datadog, Dropbox, Figma and Stripe.
Why it matters
Google is consolidating two coding-agent product lines into one, with Jules' asynchronous background execution as a gap for Antigravity to fill, and developers must finish sessions and export data before Nov 11.
