Claude Can Now Read Your Bank Account: Read-Only Personal Finance Launches in the US
Anthropic launched Personal Finance in Claude on Nov 5: US Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers can connect bank and card accounts through Plaid and ask about their money in plain language; access is read-only.

What happened
Anthropic announced the feature on Nov 5, rolling it out gradually to US users this week. It sits in Claude's sidebar: Pro, Max and Ultra subscribers can connect bank and card accounts, then ask in plain language where the month's money went or whether a trip is affordable. It covers the web, Claude Desktop, iOS and Android; Free, Team and Enterprise plans are excluded, the entry point does not appear outside the US, and Anthropic gave no timetable for other countries.
Accounts connect through Plaid. Users sign in to their bank inside Plaid and choose which accounts to share; Claude never asks for or sees the bank password, and up to 16 banks can be linked. What Claude can see is listed in the help center: bank name, account name and type, the last four digits of the account number, balances and credit limits, and up to two years of transactions. For investment, loan and credit-card accounts, Claude reads balances and credit limits only, not holdings, trades, interest rates or loan terms. Unlinking a bank stops Claude from reading that bank's accounts, but information already used in conversations is not deleted.
The limits are stated up front. Claude cannot transfer money, pay a bill, cancel a subscription or invest, and the feature is not designed to provide investment advice; it carries no ads or sponsored recommendations, and Anthropic is not pairing it with its own credit cards, loans or savings accounts. The accuracy warning is just as direct: Anthropic says Claude can make mistakes in its answers, so users should ask which transactions sit behind a number and check important figures with their bank; balances can be a day or two old, an account connected through two different logins can be counted twice, and spending from a bank Claude cannot read is left out of the figures. On timing, ChatGPT's similar personal finance feature launched on May 15, 2026, also through Plaid, putting Claude about six months behind.
