What we collect
Account: when you sign in or subscribe to the brief with email, we store your email address, an auto-generated handle (like “Koi #123”), and any nickname, avatar, username and password you set (passwords are stored only as a secure hash — no one can read them).
What you post: comments, likes, reports, prediction and quiz picks, bookmarks, followed companies and check-ins.
Reading history: which stories you read and how far. When you’re not signed in, we only use a random anonymous ID stored in your browser.
Notifications: if you allow them, we store the push address your browser or phone provides, to send the morning brief and news about companies you follow.
Ask the cat: your questions are answered by an AI model we run ourselves — they are not sent to third-party AI companies. The chat stays in your browser and clears when you close the page. If you report an answer, that question and answer are saved so we can improve.
Basic logs: pages visited, the referring site (domain only), whether you’re on mobile, and your approximate country (visit logs don’t store IP addresses). We record the IP address of comments only to prevent spam and handle abuse.
How we use it
To sign you in and keep your settings and bookmarks; show your comments; recommend stories you may like; send the emails and notifications you subscribed to; see which content is popular; and prevent spam and abuse.
We never sell your data. There are no third-party ads or tracking code; traffic is counted only with Cloudflare’s built-in anonymous analytics (no cookies, doesn’t identify you).
Who we share it with
Only the service providers that run the site, and only what they need: Cloudflare (hosting and database), Resend (sign-in codes and brief emails), and your browser’s or phone maker’s push service (notifications).
Videos and podcasts in Watch & Listen and in stories use the official players of YouTube, Bilibili, Vimeo, Spotify and others. We show only a cover image until you press play; then that platform’s player loads and its own privacy policy applies (YouTube runs in privacy-enhanced, no-cookie mode).
We may disclose information when required by law.
Your choices
On My page you can at any time: change your nickname and avatar, turn off emails and notifications, delete your comments, block other people, export all your data, and delete your account (all your data is erased and cannot be recovered).
For anything else, email himiaoai@gmail.com and we’ll respond within 30 days.
How long we keep it
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Anonymous reading data and logs are kept for up to 13 months. Deleted comments are no longer shown.
Children
This site is for readers 13 and older. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13; if we learn we have, we delete it.
Changes
We’ll post notice on the site before any significant change. Continuing to use the site means you accept the updated policy.
