1Password Launches Agents Platform: Agent Logins Without Handling Passwords

Password manager 1Password launched 1Password for Agents on Oct 22, a sign-in platform for personal AI agents: when an agent logs in to an account for a user, it no longer receives the password itself.

What happened

The sign-in flow has three steps: when an agent reaches a login page, it first identifies itself to 1Password with its own digital key and requests the matching credential; the user sees on their own device which login is requested and for what task, and approves or denies it; once approved, 1Password fills the password or one-time code directly into the destination site's form, so the agent only learns access was granted and cannot open the rest of the vault.

The launch partners roll out in two waves: Meta's Muse and SpaceXSI's Grok Bot arrive over the days following launch, while Anthropic's Claude Duet, OpenAI's ChatGPT Work and Dots, and Town's Townie are listed as coming soon. 1Password also says Browserbase, Browser Use, Perplexity, Ramp and others are building further integrations.

On pricing and scope, the feature is included at no extra cost in Individual and Family plans on 1Password.com, and new users can start with a 14-day trial. The launch landed in the same week banks tightened agent access: that week, Axios reported several US banks had detected third-party agent activity inside customer accounts and warned customers not to share credentials with agents.

Key facts

  1. The platform is called 1Password for Agents, launched Oct 22, 2026; every login requires the user to approve it on their own device, and each approval covers a single credential, not the whole vault.
  2. The agent identifies itself with a digital key; 1Password fills the password and one-time code directly, so the agent never handles or stores them; once signed in, the agent continues its task inside the logged-in session.
  3. First to roll out are Muse and Grok Bot; Claude Duet, ChatGPT Work, Dots and Townie are coming soon; the platform works only with supported integrations, not every AI tool.
  4. The feature is included at no extra cost in Individual and Family plans on 1Password.com; 1Password starts at $3.99 per month billed annually; new users can start with a 14-day trial.
  5. The platform targets the login step when personal agents handle bookings, orders, forms and expense reports; the previous common practice was handing the username and password directly to the agent.

Why it matters

the common practice so far was handing the password to the agent; the new platform separates who holds the password from who performs the task, keeping passwords inside the manager with each login approved by the user.
